The Cheshire Guild of Woodturners is a friendly group of woodturners, from beginners to professionals, who get together to share their experiences, expand their skills and increase their knowledge
Whether you are already a turner or just thinking about starting, you will be most welcome at any of our meetings. You don't have to commit to anything initially so why don't you come along and give us a try
Mark Baker, editor of Woodturning magazine and author of several practical books on woodturning, joins us for the day, as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the AWGB.
“I would like to demo the following items, but included in all of them I comment on the historical aspects of the designs, elements that can change and such like, texturing, simple carved and other decorative aspects that may be used.
I will of course be course be exploring the technical aspects of tool use, getting better cuts, problem solving and such like I tackle each project.
A lidded form - bowl grain orientation - using a coring tool to take out the central section which in turn becomes the lid of the form.
Turning square edge work - how to tackle such projects and how to incorporate other elements to add more visual drama
A classic oriental-style box
Hollow forms made easy This picks up on the core techniques used on the box, but we need to look at various ways and implications of creating an integral or added on top section.”
